Different kinds of pickled herring, inlagd sill, are just mandatory on the table for Midsummer and Christmas in Sweden! We love all varieties of this spicy and sweet herring – with onions, mustard, garlic, dill, etc. There are hundreds of recipes, some very specific to each family. It’s not so complicated to prepare it yourself, but you can also visit the famous Swedish furniture house (!) and buy ready-made sill from Sweden. For anyone who will not spend a lot of time preparing a Swedish traditional Christmas this is a super shortcut to add a Scandinavian touch to the Christmas dinner (used by Swedes as well)! Serve with boiled small potatoes and snaps, the spiced Scandinavian digestif!
